Many organisations provide ergonomic workstations and promote staff adherence to visual and physical comfort guidelines.

Any new system should be optimised for efficient and safe use by its primary user group to reduce the risk that users will be affected by repetitious use of keyboards, mice or screens.

A commonly overlooked issue is the mental load that a new system may place on users for infrequently used functions.

Services aiming to minimise physical and cognitive load issues can be incorporated into normal interaction design and usability consulting or undertaken as distinct activities.
